Sorry, why did nobody tell me that 'Fallout but trucking' exists and is about to come to consoles after a year of 88% positive reviews on Steam?

A survival business sim where you're a truck driver wandering Fallout-style post-apocalyptic wastes is the kind of thing that's laser-targeted to my particular interests – which is why I'm so disappointed that nobody told me that Dustland Delivery exists. This is exactly the sort of game I like to post sickos memes about, and I'm only coming to learn of it now, well after its original launch in 2024. Dustland Delivery is primarily a business sim, where you turn a truck into a mobile operations center and build up trade routes between the cities of the wasteland, all with the goal of making your settlement the capital of this new world. You can focus on being a merchant, but you might also turn to banditry or more altruistic missions, building a team of adventurers for hands-on tasks. In a pre-launch devlog, the devs said they "were particularly inspired by Death Stranding and Fallout 2," and that particular blend of inspirations doesn't just speak to me. The game's garnered over 1,000 Steam reviews since it hit Valve's store in 2024, and the word from players is 88% positive. The primary points of criticism seems to be a janky UI and poor tutorials, but the depth of pretty much everything else seems to more than make up for those issues. Death Stranding 2 is the purest expression of "a Hideo Kojima game" yet, and it's got nothing to do with the long cutscenes or esoteric plot Dispatch broke me out of my gaming slump when nothing else could Dispatch's success shows a way forward for a struggling AA narrative genre I only learned of Dustland Delivery's existence thanks to its impending console release across Switch, Xbox, and PS5 on January 22 – in fact, it might already be out by the time you read this. Given how many games are released on Steam every single day, maybe I shouldn't be surprised that a game that speaks so directly to my tastes slipped under my radar, but here's hoping the console version offers us all an opportunity to see what we might've missed. Death Stranding 2 is actually Australian Truck Simulator in disguise, and it's because Sam Porter Bridges is not a man: he's a truck.
