The next Minecraft update, Mounts of Mayhem, brings some of considerable changes to the sandbox game. The next Minecraft update is officially called Mounts of Mayhem. Usually, the next Minecraft update happens every three months. Since The Copper Age released on September 30, we'd expect the Mounts of Mayhem release date to land in late December. The next Minecraft update could be released in December 2025. Mojang has promised four updates a year, and since we're now on three after The Copper Age, we're hopeful that Mounts of Mayhem will be released before the end of the year. This was further confirmed in a Minecraft news post where Mojang stated, "Mounts of Mayhem will be our fourth game drop of 2025." The first pre-release build for Mounts of Mayhem has now shipped in Java edition, and you can read the full patch notes on the Minecraft website. For players using the game's Snapshots feature, where you can try out new additions in beta form, you may already be familiar with some of the update's contents. There are limited details available on the next Minecraft update, but we do know it includes the arrival of multiple further mounts, tools, and more. Yes, Nautilus shells already exist in Minecraft and have done for some time. Now, the Nautilus mob is being added to the game as a rideable mob. The Nautilus is an underwater-dwelling creature, meaning it's the first time you can ride a mount in the water. When riding a Nautilus you'll get the Breath of the Nautilus status effect--so don't worry about drowning! After taming a Nautilus using pufferfish, you can equip it with a saddle to use as a high-speed aquatic mount. The Nautilus can also be equipped with armor made of copper, iron, gold, diamond, or Netherite. Be aware that the Nautilus cannot survive on land though. There's also the Zombie Nautilus, which you might bump into being ridden by a Drowned--one of my most-hated Minecraft mobs. Zombie horses have existed in Creative mode for some time, but with the Mounts of Mayhem drop you can now find them in Survival, too. Zombie horses will spawn in Savannah and Plains biomed, with a delightful undead green tinge. They're passive mobs, but they can spawn with Zombies riding them. It's not yet been shared how to tame these beasts, but they are rideable mounts so we'll share that information as soon as Mojang let us know. If you're growing tired of Minecraft's limited weapon options, the Mounts of Mayhem drop introduces the brand-new Spear. The Spear is a tiered weapon that can be used in melee combat or while mounted. You can charge up an attack to knock enemies from their mounts, or jab attack to keep hostile mobs at a distance. The faster you're traveling on a mount, the more deadly your attack becomes. You can craft a spear in copper, iron, gold, diamond, or Netherite. The material you choose will also determine the weapon statistics. While we've said you can use the spear while on board a mount, there are other ways you can reach great speeds to increase its damage output. Try using it with Elytra, or in a minecart.
