Justin Fischer and Brock Feldman are starting fresh, with a first look at their new game that bucks the AAA trends.
Earlier this year, WB Games announced the cancellation of MultiVersus, and the game was shut down in May. Now, two of the directors of MultiVersus have revealed that they are joining forces to launch a new studio, Airlock Games, which will be completely self-funded.
MultiVersus production director Justin Fischer and technical director Brock Feldman are the founding members of Airlock Games, and the duo previously worked on Disney Infinity and Medal of Honor. Rather than diving back into AAA games, Fischer and Feldman plan to focus on making smaller games more quickly.
"We’ve spent years working on high-profile AAA titles, but we missed the wonderful, reckless creativity of more focused games," said the pair in a statement. "It's a space where we can focus on providing new experiences that interest us both as players and developers. We're so excited to have the freedom to take creative risks, push boundaries, and tell stories that just aren't feasible for AAA productions."
Airlock Games already has its first title on the way. It's a sim management horror game called What the Stars Forgot, and it utilizes old-school 16-bit graphics.
A Kickstarter campaign is currently underway with a $25,000 funding goal. As of press time, the campaign has raised nearly $8,000 and it will continue until November 27.
What the Stars Forgot will be available in early access on Steam later this year.
