The next Mario movie will see the Nintendo plumber reach for the stars. The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a huge hit for Nintendo when it first arrived in 2023--becoming the highest-grossing video game movie of all time--and its success led to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie sequel being greenlit. While the first film laid the groundwork for Illumination's animated take on Mario, Luigi, and their first adventure into the Mushroom Kingdom, the next movie will go beyond that setting and explore the cosmos. Ahead of its release next year, here's everything we know so far about the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be released on April 3, 2026. No surprises here, but for now, the plot is still being kept under wraps. Judging by the trailer, it looks like Bowser Jr. will be the primary antagonist as he searches for a way to free his dad, and the film is expected to be a loose adaptation of the Mario Galaxy games. Those classic games saw Mario forge a new friendship with Rosalina, a princess who watches over the cosmos from the Comet Observatory. Following the box-office success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, a sequel was quickly greenlit. In 2024, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that work had begun on a "new Super Mario Bros. Movie" during a Mario Day presentation, and that Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic would return to direct, with Illumination Studios Paris handling animation duties. On the soundtrack side, Brian Tyler is also returning to compose a new score for the movie. Two new voices join the film, as Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) will be voicing Princess Rosalina and Benny Safdie (Oppenheimer) will play the mischievous Bowser Jr. But who is voicing Yoshi? Mario's dinosaur pal will be in the movie--thanks, marketing materials leaks--and while he doesn't have much of a vocabulary, every squeaky sound he makes is adorable. It's a job that's clearly fit for legendary actor Brian Blessed. The primary cast of The Super Mario Bros. Movie are all returning for the sequel, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Jack Black as a very tiny Bowser who is attempting to work through some anger management issues. Also returning is Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
