Tim Willits bumped into a celebrity at the airport and he came away with a game idea. Games industry veteran Tim Willits, known for his work at id Software on Quake and Doom and now a top boss at Saber Interactive, recently got an idea for a new game from an unexpected source who previously advised people to stay away from video games. Willits said he bumped into comedian Jimmy Carr at the airport and they got to talking about games, apparently. "He honestly gave me an idea for a video game. I'm not joking. Such a nice and brilliant guy," Willits said. That's all Willits had to say on the matter, and Carr hasn't apparently discussed his game idea publicly online. Carr, who is known for his crowdwork, said in a popular video that he hasn't played video games since childhood. He joked that young people should stop playing video games. He said video games today are "too good" and they represent "cheap dopamine" as opposed to being a worthwhile way to spend your time and money. His advice to young people? "Go out and have a real f**king adventure." As for Willits, he worked at id Software in the '90s and contributed to early entries in the Doom and Quake franchises. He rose to become studio director at id Software before leaving the company in 2019 after more than 23 years. He is now chief creative officer at Saber Interactive. Saber, which is owned by Embracer, recently scored a critical and commercial hit with 2024's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. A sequel is in development.
