Mere days after No Man's Sky lead Sean Murray teased fans with safety vest emojis before releasing the survival game's massive Remnant update, Hello Games has launched a patch – and it apparently addresses one of the hardest bugs the team has ever fixed.
Remnant brought everything from a Garry's Mod-esque gravity gun to spider mechs to the sci-fi survival game – and, sadly, a bug. Not just any bug, though. The bug of all bugs (or, well, one of two bugs that stand as such).Hotfix 6.22 went live yesterday, as noted on the official No Man's Sky website, tackling all sorts of problems, from black screens to more serious crashes. The aforementioned bug, however, is noteworthy.
So noteworthy, in fact, that engine programmer Martin Griffiths covers it in a post responding to the Remnant 6.22 patch notes. "This patch has lots of fixes, but in particular, it has a fix for a bug that was causing a lot of hangs/crashes on Xbox Series S|X," he writes. That's when he adds something that's a little bit mind-blowing – in all of No Man's Sky's years (and we're talking nearly a decade, as it released in 2016), this bug stands out.

"No Man's Sky has had dozens of updates and hundreds of patches over the last nine odd years," Griffiths explains. "We've only had two bugs (including this one) that were this level of hard/bad – it was a particularly tricky class of GPU hang, and the bug also had not been seen in testing. Apologies this one got through – the patch came out on Xbox about 4 PM, and although it's early days, things are so far looking a lot better!"
That must have been one heck of a bug. It does beg the question of what the other highlighted horrible bug was – and now I'm going to be wondering about it until the next patch. Knowing Hello Games, however, that won't be too long. As Griffiths put it, there have been "hundreds of patches" thus far, so I'm sure there'll be plenty more to come. Plus, even with nothing else on the horizon, there's Light No Fire to anticipate.
