"He's made it his own character, and that's what he should have done as an actor." Netflix's The Witcher series made a drastic change for its latest season, with The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth stepping in to replace Henry Cavill in the lead role of Geralt. Doug Cockle, who voiced Geralt in the video games, has reacted to the change, saying Hemsworth has done a "fantastic" job taking over for Cavill and has made the role his own. "I loved Henry. He was a fantastic Witcher, Geralt, specifically, so I was sad to see him go, but I have watched the newest season, and I think Liam holds up pretty well," Cockle told GamesRadar. "He's different. He's made it his own character, and that's what he should have done as an actor, and I think he's done a fantastic job." Cavill announced in 2022 that he was leaving The Witcher, and this shocked and dismayed fans of the fantasy show. There was an online petition that gathered hundreds of thousands of signatures asking for Cavill to come back. It was around this time that Cavill announced that he would come back to play Superman again, but that didn't materialize. The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said one idea was to end the show after Cavill's departure, but the team was not interested in doing this. The producers also said they did not want to continue the story focusing on a different Witcher character. Instead, they stuck with Geralt and re-cast the role with Hemsworth. He will also star in the fifth and final season of the series, which doesn't have a release date yet but isn't expected soon. As for The Witcher game series, CD Projekt is currently developing The Witcher 4 and collaborating with Fool's Theory on a remake of the first game.
