The highly anticipated sequel to the best-selling epic fantasy novel The Will of the Many releases November 11.
James Islington - The Strength of the Few (Hierarchy, Book 2)
It's almost time to return to the world of Caten in The Strength of the Few, the second novel in James Islington's best-selling fantasy series Hierarchy. The Strength of the Few hits stores next Tuesday, November 11. If you haven't preordered your copy yet, the hardcover edition is available for a 30% discount from Amazon, dropping the price to $23.80 (was $35). Amazon is offering free release-day delivery for Prime members.
The Strength of the Few is the sequel to The Will of the Many, one of the biggest fantasy novels of 2023. If you haven't read The Will of the Many, the hardcover edition is discounted to only $17 (was $30) at Amazon. It's also worth noting the previously sold-out Deluxe Edition is back in stock for $32.42 (was $35).
The Strength of the Few's hardcover edition is 736 pages. Publisher Saga Press, a Simon & Schuster imprint, opted to follow the Deluxe Edition design of The Will of the Many for the sequel. It has sprayed page edges, reversible cover art, and illustrated endpapers.
Since members get one Audible credit each month, you can purchase The Strength of the Few for one dollar. Returning subscribers typically aren't eligible for these deals, but even the $14.95/month price for Audible Premium Plus saves you a lot of money on the audiobook. Premium Plus members can purchase additional credits for $15, which allows you to buy The Strength of the Few for a $20 less than the cash price for members.
The Strength of the Few picks up where The Will of the Many left off, so it's essential to read the first book. The epic fantasy series is set in a fictional world called Caten. Islington drew inspiration from the Roman Republic, specifically the Golden Age.
Get 3 months for $0.99/month until December 16.
The Hierarchy series follows Vis Telimus, a 17-year-old orphan with a murky past who attends the Catenan Academy, an elite school typically reserved for the children of high-class members of Caten.
In Caten, lower-class members of society are forced to give some of their physical and mental strength (their "Will") to the elites. The first book's title is a reference to this concept, while the second book alludes to the other side of the equation. The series takes place three centuries after an unknown cataclysmic event wiped out 95% of the population.
The Deluxe Edition of The Will of the Many had been sold out for months, so if you're interested in having matching hardcovers, you may want to snag a copy soon. The Deluxe Edition is 720 pages and has sprayed edges, reversible cover art, and illustrated endpapers. Saga Press released the Deluxe Edition last November.
As shown above, The Will of the Many's standard hardcover edition has two different covers. Saga Press recently began printing it with the same cover art as the Deluxe Edition, just without the extra flourishes. The blue cover art on the right is the original hardcover edition published in May 2023. We included both images above, because it's possible Amazon could send you the original; I received a hardcover with the blue cover a couple months ago from Amazon.
In any case, The Will of the Many's hardcover edition is only $1.50 more than the paperback edition, which has the updated cover art and released in June.
Like its sequel, The Will of the Many's audiobook edition is exclusive to Audible.
The Will of the Many Editions
Hierarchy is James Islington's second best-selling fantasy series. The Australian author self-published his debut high fantasy novel The Shadow of What Was Lost in 2014. It proved to be a success and was picked up by Orbit Books, a major worldwide publisher of sci-fi and fantasy. Orbit reissued The Shadow of What Was Lost, the start of The Licanius Trilogy, in 2016. Islington followed up his debut with An Echo of Things to Come in 2017 and The Light of All That Falls in 2019.
If you enjoyed The Will of the Many but haven't read The Licanius Trilogy, you should definitely check it out. It's more "traditional fantasy" than Hierarchy, and it has a really cool magic system.
