As The Game Awards 2025 hype draws to a close, fans are looking forward to all of the new games showcased at the event – which, of course, includes Divinity, an RPG that's clearly not trying to diminish its darker themes or censor more "adult" content. If you haven't seen it yet, the new trailer for Divinity – no, not Divinity: Original Sin 3 – from Larian Studios is… well, something. Between the fiery sacrifice, the orgy between humans and lizards, the blood and gore, it's hard not to immediately notice that this is not just your ol' run-of-the-mill RPG. Much like Baldur's Gate 3, the last gem to come from Larian Studios, the new Divinity clearly doesn't shy away from heavier topics. Fans have noted as much online, and unsurprisingly, developers have caught wind of all the discussion surrounding how NSFW Divinity appears to be. Larian Studios publishing director Michael 'Cromwelp' Douse acknowledges it in response to someone commending the devs for pushing boundaries. "The phrase 'treating the audience with a level of intellectual respect' came up a lot in planning," he explains. As Larian disgusts and excites with Divinity, RPG veteran says "it is wild what people will get upset about in games" Divinty's freaky announcement is a great reminder that this is next game from the team that let you have sex with a bear Larian's new Divinity game might mean a pivot back to classic RPGs and I can't wait to see it *isn't about trying to shock themDratDecember 14, 2025 *isn't about trying to shock themDratDecember 14, 2025 *isn't about trying to shock themDratDecember 14, 2025 "It isn't about trying to shock them, it's about trying to match their powers of comprehension so that it resonates. We know people are capable of appreciating a three-dimensional world." He isn't exactly wrong – plenty of folks have praised the trailer, and predecessor Baldur's Gate 3, for not being afraid to explore more difficult, disgusting, or adult-oriented themes. It's a layer of depth that the genre doesn't often boast, after all. Comments show fans agreeing. "I think you nailed it with this trailer; I think it portrays perfectly the general world, environment, and mood of Divinity," as one reads. Another adds, "Thanks for this, this was VERY needed in video games." As a longtime RPG player myself, I'm looking forward to seeing how Divinity handles such content – but I have a feeling Larian Studios will ace its delivery, whenever the exciting game does release. I mean, we are talking about the studio that shamelessly allows players to hook up with a bear (well, sort of, anyway) and has a whole Dark Urge run players can opt to play through. These devs are nothing if not experienced in dealing with the more 18+ side of things.
