"Let Justin Lin work his magic," Arrowhead boss Shams Jorjani says.
A Helldivers movie is now in development, and it was just recently announced that Fast and Furious and Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin is lined up to helm the movie. It's been reported that Lin does not play games, and some people expressed concerns about him making the movie.
However, Shams Jorjani, the CEO of Helldivers developer Arrowhead Studios, says there's no reason to worry
Writing on Discord, Jorjani said he trusts Lin, saying the filmmaker did a "great job" with Star Trek Beyond. The executive also encouraged people to let the man cook. "Let Justin Lin work his magic," Jorjani said, as reported by GamesRadar.
The Hollywood Reporter said it was in fact Lin's lack of experience with games that helped him get the job when pitching to production company Sony. The director "aims to find the humanity in the characters and weave timely themes into the story," the report said.
Gary Dauberman, who wrote the It and Annabelle horror movies, is attached to write the script for the Helldivers movie.
Lin directed multiple Fast and Furious movies, including 2021's F9: The Fast Saga. Apart from those films and Star Trek Beyond, he directed multiple episodes of True Detective and Community.
The Helldivers movie is in the works at PlayStation Productions, the division within PlayStation that handles the film and TV adaptations of PlayStation's franchises. PlayStation Productions is also behind the upcoming Horizon, Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, and Gravity Rush movies, along with the TV shows The Last of Us, Twisted Metal, and the upcoming God of War series.
