Prime Video's God of War TV series is progressing ahead. The God of War TV show for Prime Video from Battlestar Galactica's Ronald D. Moore is moving ahead, with a new report from Deadline saying Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye has signed on to direct the first two episodes of the untitled show. The director is best known for Shogun and The Boys. Moore, meanwhile, is the showrunner, writer, and executive producer. The report added that pre-production work for the God of War show is now underway in Vancouver and that casting is happening. However, there is no word yet on any names for actors who might land parts in the show. Prime Video is also the home of the Fallout TV show, which returns for its second season this month. There are also Wolfenstein and Mass Effect shows in the works at Prime Video. Two seasons of the God of War TV show have already been ordered. Moore wasn't originally involved with the God of War TV show, but he came aboard in late 2024 after a big shakeup for the show saw most of its creative leads leave the series. At San Diego Comic-Con, Moore spoke about how Sony Santa Monica's 2018 God of War game is serving as the primary inspiration for the series. "This world and this universe are really rich, and it's interesting, and it's really been fun to adapt," Moore said to Collider. "It's an adaptation, so it's an adaptation-slash-interpretation as you go into live-action, and it's been really fun to sort of go, 'Wow, there's a lot here we can play with. Okay, we want to keep the story. We want to keep the characters and the spirit of it'. There's all this stuff that you can keep turning to for inspiration." As for the God of War game series, 2022's God of War Ragnarok was the latest entry in the series, and it wrapped up the Norse saga. It's one of Sony's most popular and beloved franchises, so it's likely not a matter of if but when a new game is announced. Beyond a new God of War game, developer Sony Santa Monica could be making a new IP.
