Update: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has now been dated for Xbox Series X|S as well. It's also coming on June 3, 2026 and pre-orders are currently discounted on the Xbox Store.
Original story: Square Enix has formally announced Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Nintendo Switch 2 port just two weeks after the last game became a full multiplatform title, and the open-world sequel is coming sooner than you might expect.
As part of today's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Square Enix showed up with a quick look at Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's portable version and dated it for June 3, 2026, less than half a year after Final Fantasy 7 Remake was ported to Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, with pre-orders opening today.

Game director Naoki Hamaguchi hasn't exactly kept the port's existence a secret, though, as he's repeatedly promised that both Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the yet-unnamed finale would be arriving on all consoles.
"I've got a personal policy where I don't want to make any versions of my games different or offer a different gameplay experience," Hamaguchi said last month in regard to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's performance on the hybrid handheld, promising that the upcoming port won't come with major technical compromises. "That might get confusing for players, and they might wonder which version of the game they should buy. That's something I'd very much like to avoid."
The Nintendo Direct also made mention of a "Boost function to make combat easier," which sounds a lot like the new FF7 Remake quality-of-life mode that basically turned your party into souped-up Goku killers that would deal 9,999 damage on every attack.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy director had to consider how much to include from the various spin-offs because devs "didn't just want to make a remake."
