Destiny 2's big Shadow and Order update is officially delayed more than 3 months as it gets "large revisions" and a new name

Bungie has officially delayed Destiny 2's next major update, previously titled Shadow and Order, to June 9.
Shadow and Order was supposed to launch on March 3, but when Bungie announced in January that its next big shooter Marathon is releasing on March 5, there was a lot of doubt that Destiny's update would hold onto its release date. That doubt grew louder the longer Bungie stayed weirdly quiet about Shadow and Order, and earlier this month Forbes' Paul Tassi reported that a delay to May was imminent. Unfortunately, it's a little worse than that, as Bungie has now confirmed Shadow and Order, which isn't called Shadow and Order anymore, has been delayed three-and-a-half months.
"Our next Major Update, Destiny 2: Shadow and Order, is undergoing large revisions and will be delayed," reads a post from the official Destiny 2 Bluesky account. "This update is being changed and expanded to include sizable quality-of-life updates and as a result, will also be renamed. This update will now launch on June 9, 2026."

"We will provide exact details closer to release covering previously announced Weapon Tier Upgrading, but also additions like expanding Tiered Gear to all Raid and Dungeon activities, Pantheon 2.0, Tier 5 stats for Exotic Armors, and more," added Bungie.
Destiny 2's player base has been dwindling for months now, with its most recent major update, the Star Wars-themed Renegade, drawing in series-low numbers on Steam and the game's Steam charts showing a steady decline of average and peak players. With Marathon on the way, Destiny 2's now untitled next update could be a make or break moment for the game, and it seems clear to me that Bungie is feeling the pressure to come out with something fresh enough to turn the tide back in its favor.
The studio says it'll keep dropping bug and performance fixes throughout June as well as "portal modifiers, Guardian Games (March), and the return of a more frequent Iron Banner cadence.
"In terms of communications, we will be focusing on providing you with updates about our live game content, community activations, and general upkeep through the TWID and our Destiny social channels," reads the above statement.
