Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding will expand with a new series on Disney+ that stands alone from the anime film and the games. Earlier this fall, Kojima Productions shared a trailer for a Death Stranding anime movie, Death Stranding: Mosquito. However, that's not the only anime expanding the Death Stranding universe. Franchise creator Hideo Kojima has revealed that a Death Stranding anime series is coming to Disney+. Kojima and series director Takayuki Sano announced the series at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. The working title of the show is Death Stranding Isolations, which will utilize traditional hand-drawn 2D animation. The animation will be provided by E&H production, and Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 character designer Ilya Kuvshinov created the concept art for Isolations. The art includes a glimpse of the two leading characters. While the series stands alone from the game, the synopsis mentions Norman Reedus' Sam Bridges by name and hints that the male lead has an unknown grudge against Sam. "Somewhere in North America, just as Sam Bridges walks through the continent in order to save America, the someones are also trying to deal with their isolation in their own way. An old man trying to realize salvation through ways outside of the connection advocated by Bridges. A female warrior who tries to kickstart a world of constant fighting. A boy with a grudge against Bridges. A girl who embraces loneliness. On the precipice of the end of humanity and the world, their fates and hopes converge, as another story of Death Stranding begins." Death Stranding Isolations will premiere on Disney+ in 2027. The Death Stranding animated movie, Death Stranding: Mosquito, doesn't currently have a release window. That project will be directed by ABC Animation Studio's Hiroshi Miyamoto from a script by Aaron Guzikowski. Kojima was asked to direct the Death Stranding live-action movie himself, but he declined. Instead, the live-action film will be helmed by director Michael Sarnoski and produced by A24. The most recent game in the series, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, was released earlier this year.
