In the wake of Clair Obscur's award wins this month, it became known that Sandfall Interactive used Generative AI while developing the turn-based RPG. AI artwork isn't in the current version of the game, but "temporary placeholder textures" were unintentionally included in the April launch build, according to Sandfall. In response to this discovery, The Indie Game Awards has retroactively disqualified Clair Obscur for violating the organization's rules prohibiting the use of Generative AI. As a result, Clair Obscur lost two awards: Best Debut Indie Game and Game of the Year. The GameStop-exclusive Lumiere Edition is only available for PS5 in the US. Unfortunately, as of December 22, the reprint is sold out.
