Don't expect Assassin's Creed Shadows to get another expansion as big as Claws of Awaji any time soon, as one of the blockbuster game's leads has said the team is focused on "chunkier," more frequent updates in 2026. "As of now, at this moment for Year Two, there is no expansion on the size of [Claws of Awaji] that is planned, currently," associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois says in an interview with AssCreed-focused channel JorRaptor. "We're still working on content for post-launch and supporting it, but it's not a full-on DLC the way a season pass would have had in previous years." Instead, Ubisoft is focusing on "chunkier updates that shake things up." Lemay-Comtois compared the upcoming content to Shadows' most recent update, which included a controversial Attack on Titan collaboration and another 'story drop' with new side quests. Whatever's coming next year is "like yesterday's update, plus... something, at minimum, this size." Assassin's Creed Shadows' DLC wraps up 2 storylines left open in the base RPG, but devs aren't closing the door completely: "You can always reopen things" "You have to design with the time you have": Assassin's Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji had to be a tighter, more focused expansion than anything its devs had made before Claws of Awaji is an ambitious expansion that hides a little too much of its shine behind Assassin's Creed Shadows' familiarity According to Lemay-Comtois, this approach to post-launch support allows the devs to "keep things small and reactive and see how the community feels about it," to quickly pivot as the year goes on. Still, the door's not completely closed for another big old expansion since Lemay-Comtois also pointed to how Assassin's Creed Mirage just got a beefy free DLC years after its then-final update as proof that "anything can happen in the future." (It should be noted, however, that Ubisoft employees fear the recent Mirage DLC, set and announced in Saudi Arabia, might also have been paid for by Saudi Arabia's public investment fund - hopefully Shadows can get the same treatment without political controversy attached). "The Assassin's Creed franchise exceeded our expectations": Assassin's Creed Shadows is "overperforming" according to Ubisoft, set to "reach a broader audience" soon, thanks to its new Nintendo Switch 2 port.
