Christopher Grilli, a longtime Ubisoft writer with credits on Assassin's Creed Origins, Valhalla, and Mirage, has signed on as lead scriptwriter for what's understood as the next mainline installment in the series, the reportedly witchy RPG codenamed Hexe. Grilli announced the news on his Linkedin, writing: "I'm thrilled to share that I'm starting a new position at Ubisoft Montreal as lead scriptwriter on Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe. Incredibly grateful to be a part of this team and project!" Grilli first joined Ubisoft back in 2016 as scriptwriter, with his first major credit being Assassin's Creed Origins. He took on the role of lead writer in 2021 but left the studio in 2023 and joined other companies in various writing capacities. Now he's back at Ubisoft full-time and doing what he apparently likes doing best: writing scripts for Assassin's Creed games. Assassin's Creed Hexe: Everything we know about the new flagship AC game Upcoming Assassin's Creed games: Every new Assassin's Creed game in development Assassin's Creed Shadows associate director has a hot tip for the next Ubisoft studio taking on the franchise: "Pay more attention to parkour as its own pillar" Hexe is the mysterious next "flagship" game in the Assassin's Creed series, although it looks like a significant departure, tonally at least, from previous games. We've seen very little (read: nothing) in terms of gameplay since its brief, cinematic reveal trailer in 2022, but that footage combined with a report from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier suggests we're in for a dark, witchy RPG set in 16th century Europe and having a focus on the witch trials from that period of history. There's no telling where Hexe sits on Ubisoft's release calendar, but seeing as how it was revealed almost four years ago now, one would expect we'll get confirmation on that relatively soon. "We are hard to beat": 9 months since Assassin's Creed Shadows, its associate director looks back on what makes this RPG the best in series history
