A newly opened New York Pokemon store was robbed by three suspects who are still at large. Three masked suspects stormed a newly opened Pokemon store and stole over $100,000 worth of collectibles--including rare cards, $1,000 in cash, and a cell phone--according to reports, employees, and police. As reported by Fox5NY, The Poke Court opened its doors in New York's Meatpacking District in November 2025. Specializing in Pokemon collectibles and trading cards, the store was hosting its first-ever arts and crafts community event on January 14 when three masked men--wearing anime backpacks and hoodies, according to the New York Post--rushed the shop around 6:45 P.M. ET with hammers and a handgun to commit the crime. Video surveillance of the incident obtained by ABC7NY showed the armed suspects threatening the roughly 40 customers inside the store and smashing myriad display cases to gain access to the rare cards. According to the NYPost and the Poke Court's Instagram story, the masked individuals made off with cards (as old as 1999 and as new as 2016) featuring Charizard, Ho-Oh, Pikachu, and Treecko, totalling over $116,000 in value. They also snatched $1,000 and a 27-year-old's phone. The entire incident lasted less than three minutes. After the suspects fled the scene, reports said an employee locked the door and called in the crime to the police. "I’m just really glad everyone is safe," the witness told Fox5NY. "When you hear people smashing with a hammer and brandishing guns--when I watched the tape, they were pointing guns right in the faces of my friends, our customers, our community. Luckily, no one was hurt, and I'm very thankful for that." Founder and store owner Courtney Chin said it was a really bad day for the shop and the community. However, a few "bad apples" shouldn't ruin a hobby like Pokemon card collecting, and, as a result, the store has heightened security manning the door to prevent this from happening again. "We want to create a safe space for the community," Chin told Fox5NY. "It really sucks that, like...you know, 50 people had to basically get held up and held hostage." Gaming content creator Alcremie Sundae, who was one of the hosts of the Poke Court's community event the night of the robbery, posted a tearful video on X describing her experience of the incident while sharing screenshots of everything that the robbers had stolen. Poke Court was robbed at gun point during our top loader decorating event pic.twitter.com/6HSewMcHq7 "This was a free event for our community, but it's just something...something to give back to the community," she said in the video. "It breaks my heart [that] something as wholesome as arts and crafts for Pokemon cards could have something happen like this." The investigation is still underway, and local New York police said that the three suspects are still at large. This is the latest incident in a long string of robberies happening at Pokemon collectible and trading card shops around the world. Just earlier this month, two separate incidents in Southern California resulted in suspects making off with over $300,000 in stolen merchandise. Something similar happened in December 2025 when an LA Pokemon store was ransacked for more than $100,000 in in cards and collectibles. And in May 2025, a UK man was arrested after getting caught with a cache of cards worth £250,000 (or $332,500).
